MTV RE:DEFINE was the artistic auction not to be missed this year. For its eighth edition on Friday, March 29, the American event founded by the Goss-Michael Foundation chose the British artist Marc Quinn as artist honoree, who generously donated two of his works for the sale. The event raised more than $ XX for the MTV Staying Alive Foundation, which aims to educate communities about the risks of HIV.

MTV RE:DEFINE is one of the most famous philanthropic art auctions in the United States. Founded in 2011 by the Goss-Michael Foundation, the event has already raised over $12.5 million to support HIV prevention and art education projects. This year again, the proceeds were donated to the MTV Staying Alive Foundation, which is fighting to eradicate AIDS through education. In practice, the organization provides financial and educational support to young people who lead local HIV prevention initiatives around the world.

This eighth edition has however reserved a novelty: the MTV RE:DEFINE Award for art students. The award offers studio funding and exhibition opportunities to a postgraduate fine arts student in their final program year at one of the top 25 graduate art programs in the world.

The winner of the 2018 edition, Marc Quinn took the place of Tracey Emin as the honored artist this year. For the occasion, the renowned British painter and sculptor has given two works that he has created especially for MTV RE:DEFINE: a huge bronze sculpture of 1,400 kg estimated between $450,000 and $550,000 and an oil on canvas estimated more than $100,000. Marc Quinn had already donated one of his much-sought-after iris paintings in 2016, which was sold for $ 300,000. He also doubled his donation, which raised $600,000 to support MTV Staying Alive missions.

A total of 25 contemporary art works were on sale in addition to some luxury experiences such as a meeting with tennis player Rafael Nadal or places for the Fashion Week in New York. Among the internationally renowned artists who donated one of their works for the good cause were the French sculptor Bernar Venet, the English light artist Chris Levine, the author and artist famous for his porcelain installations Edmund de Waal and the British designer Philip Colbert.

The auction was held at Statler Dallas, one of the most iconic hotels in downtown Dallas. It was animated by the famous auctioneer Simon de Pury, often nicknamed "the Mick Jagger of art auctions" for his passionate interventions. MTV RE:DEFINE was chaired by Sami Abboud, Vice President of the Private Bank at Merrill Lynch, and by Jonny Burt and Joe Kennedy, founders of London-based contemporary art gallery Unit London, for the artistic side. During the evening, donors had the copportunity to attend a headliner performance by global superstar Rita Ora. An after party was also organized in the club Giorgio's with Bryan Rabin and Adam Bravin DJs.

The event was once again a great success. In total, MTV RE:DEFINE raised $XX to fund AIDS prevention programs around the world with the MTV Staying Alive Foundation. The name of the next honorary artist has not yet been announced, but the future candidate was probably hiding among the artists present this year.
