Chris Levine & The House of St Barnabas

  • #Painting

Fifteen works of contemporary art from the private collection of The House of St Barnabas, one of London’s oldest charities establishment will be auctioned at Lyon & Turnbull on Wednesday 27 March. The proceeds of the auction, untitled Modern Made, will be used to fund the "Employment Academy" program, which helps those affected by homelessness.

An artistic and social house

Located in the heart of Soho in London, The House of St Barnabas has helped Londoners affected by homelessness since 1862. In 2013, the historic and charitable establishment became a private club with two programs sharing the same vision: to create a fairer world.
The organization first offers a cultural and creative non-profit space where it exhibits works of contemporary art by both established and emerging artists. The permanent collection includes famous artists like Jeff Koons, Tracey Emin, The Chapman Brothers and Damien Hirst. All works displayed in the House are intended to be sold in order to finance their second program: the Employment Academy, which offers homeless people the opportunity to acquire professional skills through practice: cooking, account management, painting and cleaning... All activities aim to help them to reintegrate the working life. Overall, 85% of participants in the 12-week course receive a diploma and 68% of them find a secure job after the training.
